What a great weekend we had as far as the weather is concerned. I hope all of you had a chance to experience some decent weather for a change. Lord knows we could all use it.

Another week has gone by and Obama is still our president. And to make matters worse, he’s back to pushing Obamacare again. It sounds to me as if he wants to knock-off as many moderate Democrats as he can by forcing this bill thru congress. He knows they can’t afford to vote for the bill, but he also must know that it may not be enough that they NOT vote for the bill. Many citizens will still take out their frustration on any Democrat that shows up on their ballots. But logic tells me that he would be stupid as hell if this is his plan, because it’s obvious that he would win a battle but lose the war. I really do hope that he is just that stupid.

Enough of my ranting, it’s all yours…

Well, no shock there on why jobs aren’t coming back. Commies in charge makes that kinda hard…

Another business development mtg today and things still look bleak in my field (transportation engineering). Cities/counties have no monies to spend on consultants (need to keep their city staff working). Basically the only agencies dolling out contracts are, yep, federal transit agencies!

DCG,

Just curious… are you the folks that come up with ideas like ‘traffic calming’?

Yes (my firm), but don’t blame me! I’m the proposal manager – not an engineer. well, I guess you can blame me for trying to sell the stuff…:)

Our engineers follow certain “govt regulations” regarding traffic calming design/implementation. Shoot, there’s even regulations for requiring a traffic analysis for installing a friggin stop light.

And I think I’ve mentioned this before, we design the “wayfinding” signs…like you can’t ask someone for directions. The govt agencies just loooove to spend our tax dollars on silly things like that!

DCG,

Asheville North Carolina is now big on ‘traffic calming’ so you might want to see if they are hiring and get the heck out of Commie-Land.

The city government loves this new stuff, but the people hate ‘traffic calming’. I’m one of those people.

The city recently spent $22 million dollars to put in a polished Marble seating area and Roman styled stage which will be christened a park when it’s done. Oh, in case you were wondering, this park is replacing a……… park. That’s right, we had this very nice grassy park with lot’s of good shade trees, and it even had a stage. People have used that stage for giving speeches and for musicians to make their magic. But the City, in it’s infinite wisdom of course, decided the best way to save money in the middle of a recession was to spend $22 million dollars. The best part of this idea was what it led to. Almost all the good shade trees were dug up and cut-up for fire-wood. The City said the trees were in the way of a good view of the stage. Well, now that the new park is almost finished, the City went out and bought new shade trees so people could sit in the shade during events. Guess where they planted them? Yep, same places as the old trees. The best part however has to be the large grassy areas that were used by families for picnics while at an event. The City decided that sitting on soft natural grass was too redneck so they took out all the grass and poured concrete. As concrete goes, it’s some very nice concrete, but it’s nothing like laying on thick soft natural grass. Oh, in case you don’t like sitting on hard concrete on the ground, the City thought of everything and installed polished granite and marble benches everywhere.

The next time these jokers want to waste $22 million dollars, I hope they call me first!!!

Good grief…idiots all of them!

Funny you mention Asheville…we have a couple guys going there to demo a new software program to help w/movement of pedestrians, bicycles, etc. Don’t want to say why on this blog. I can email you if you’d like to know what it’s about.

DCG,

You know I’m curious so I will be hollering at ya.

If the guys from your company get a chance to sell the software, tell them to double the price. Asheville LOVES to spend money.
