Blue Friday

International Picture of the Year
Here are two very touching photos honored this year

When 2nd Lt. James Cathey’s body arrived at the Reno Airport , Marines climbed into the cargo hold of the plane and draped the flag over his casket as passengers watched the family gather on the tarmac.

During the arrival of another Marine’s casket last year at Denver International Airport , Major Steve Beck described the scene as so powerful: ‘See the people in the windows? They sat right there in the plane, watching those Marines. You gotta wonder what’s going through their minds, knowing that they’re on the plane that brought him home,’ he said ‘They will remember being on that plane for the rest of their lives. They’re going to remember bringing that Marine home. And they should.’

The night before the burial of her husband’s body, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of ‘Cat,’ and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept. ‘I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it,’ she said. ‘I think that’s what he would have wanted’

WILL YOU WEAR BLUE THIS FRIDAY?

Blue Fridays.

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing blue every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the ‘silent majority’ We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday — and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something blue. By word of mouth, press, TV — let’s make the United States on every Friday a sea of blue much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in BLUE and it will let our troops know the once ‘silent’ majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on. The first thing a soldier says when asked ‘What can we do to make things better for you?’ is .’We need your support and your prayers.’ Let’s get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something blue every Friday.

H/t my friend Judith!

A beautiful tribute to our troops. I am also relieved that we are now able to view some of the caskets returning because Bush would not allow it on his watch. He and Cheney should be very guilty about the untold number of unnecessary deaths for an unjust war! We now have a President who truly supports our American soldiers. Kuddos to OBAMA!!!!!!!

Ann,

In the spirit of Christmas I will not jump on your lack of education or your hatred for your fellow Americans.

And on that same line of thinking… If Obama wants to make Americans, including our military, very happy for Christmas HE SHOULD QUIT!

Ann,

Like Gio, in honor of Christmas, I shall be polite and restrained with you. But I will make the following observation:

You have a decidedly odd method of measuring a president/commander-in-chief’s dedication to our troops. Your yardstick is whether the transporting home of the casket of a fallen soldier is seen by the public. From that one thing, you draw your invidious comparison between Bush & Obama, which favors the latter.

So, Obama is good to our troops? Really? How exactly, pray tell?

Is it because Obama increased our troops in Afghanistan by 30,000 instead of the 40,000 minimum requested by the commander on the ground there, General McChrystal, and in so doing, Obama is putting ALL our troops there in harm’s way?

Is it because Obama has shown his care and concern for our troops stationed in war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan by visiting them, especially at Thanksgiving? Oh, silly me. Obama NEVER did do that, did he, whereas Bush did, year after year. Instead, Obama spent Thanksgiving in the White House with his wife & daughters, consuming, according to press accounts, “a gullet-busting Thanksgiving feast that could have satisfied William Howard Taft: turkey, honey-baked ham, cornbread and oyster stuffings, greens, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes, green-bean casserole, banana cream pie, pumpkin pie, apple pie, huckleberry pie, cherry pie – and the president’s favorite, sweet-potato pie.”

You must be so proud of him!

Eowyn, while I agree that ann’s method of measuring the “love” a president has for the troop, I must respectfully disagree. I am not happy about our continuing presence in the middle east, we’re pulling troops back. And Obama did visit troops in middle east multiple times just as Bush did. While I believe Bush meant well, he did spent an absurd amount of time on vacation.
Why does people equate going to war war “support for our troops.” During the Bush presidency, the left was branded as traitor for wanting to bring the troops home while the right “love” the troops when they sent them to war

The Traitor sucks and his support for our troops sucks even bigger. Took three months to make up his mind re: McChrystal’s request…yeah, leadership in its finest form.

A beautiful tribute to our troops…a picture is what makes you proud? Why don’t you pay tribute to our soldiers now serving and send them a care package. I DARE YOU…http://www.anysoldier.com/
