Climategate Fallout in Australia

As news of the discovery of faked data by scientist-advocates of Anthropogenic (manmade) Global Warming (AGW) reverberate around the globe, we are seeing fallout of Climategate in Australia.

Yesterday, November 25, 2009, twelve opposition party (Liberal Party) members of Australia’s Federal Parliament quit in protest against a vote for the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) — Australia’s version of Obama’s Cap ‘n Trade. The 12 parliamentarians include high-profile MP Tony Abbott, Senators Nick Minchin and Eric Abetz, Tony Smith, Sophie Mirabella, and Opposition Senate whip Stephen Parry.

The resignations came after Abbott and Minchin confronted Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull and urged him to put off a vote until February, but Turnbull refused. Abbott and other Liberals say they have been inundated with calls from constituents who want the Liberals to reject the scheme. Those who have resigned insist they have done so as a policy protest.

Turnbull has vowed to stay on as Opposition Leader and support the ETS despite mass frontbench resignations in revolt against his position. He insists that his Liberal Party must honor its agreement with the Government and allow the amended scheme to pass the Senate so as not to be seen as “climate change sceptics.”

But the open rebellion within his own party has so damaged Turnbull that political observers say he could resign from being Opposition Leader as early as today.

Now if only members of America’s opposition party, the GOP, will do likewise and stand firm against Cap ‘n Trade and a Copenhagen agreement!!
