HA…that’s exactly how I looked last night…crazy busy work week and I’m thankful to still be employed!
Heard that The Traitor’s poll numbers are still falling…guess when he can’t get the real job done he finds a “distraction” such as Fox News and H1N1. Why can’t this president focus on the real issues? I know, rhetorical question…
DCG………I know how ya feel..I swear that’s a pic of me (didn’t shave this AM). This ongoing obamathon is plum tuckering me out. And on top of that it’s costing me a small fortune. Every time I read about another loony czar or the bill de-jour they’re ramming down our throat, I end up buying more goodies off the internet. For my Bird watching hobby…. Hehe You know just in case I should need all these wiz bang accessories. You know like the need to see in the dark, it really helps me enjoy the wildlife when it’s really dark out…….just makes everything a little green….LOL, and to pin point with a teeny tiny red dot at say about 500 yards……..that’s for bird watching. and this big heavy box…..well now it’s 2…not sure whats in them cause I’m old, but must be important since I seemed to put a lock on them…………hmmm , now where did I put that key. And this week my Son and I went bird watching and ya know how hard it is to point out a good yellow bellied sap sucker at dusk……….I just happened to have this handy little laser to pinpoint it out to my Son………Boy did he appreciate that. I’m a Good Dad showing my Son all this nature. Not quite sure what it’s for, but I’m sure I might find other uses…. 😉

Somehow I’m not convinced that the binoculars, laser pointer, night vision goggles are all for birdwatching. LOL
It’s good that you and your son have your own “distraction” so the obamathon gets a break and you guys get some fresh air. I was actually glad to work late a couple nights…so tired I didn’t even want to get online to see what the next disaster was…
D………Your right. There are times that I look at the laptop and just go…ahhhhhh and walk on bye. I know I’ll only get pissed. Now if I could only remember that password I used to block all the Porn from my Son…..At least the laptop could be of some good use……….LOL
Just kidding……..at my age I’d go Blind in one eye and deaf in the other….

Hey, By the way, doe’s anyone else use firefox/mozzilla for their Browser? I just started playing with it to get used to it and got to say it flies. It’s like 3 times faster at loading than I.E Let me know your thoughts. Just trying to figure out favorites and email….which you can use just about any email program with it

I got onto Firefox several months ago. Just love it. Much faster and fewer problems than Internet Explorer. Plus, I love the firefox icon.
However, sometimes the Firefox box in the lower bar at the bottom of my screen just disappears. The bar and the Firefox screen only re-emerge when I shut down my computer at the end of the day.
Does anyone know why? and more importantly, how can I fix it?
Eowyn: I’ve had Firefox for several years and I’ve never encountered your problem. If your Firefox browser disappears, just click on the icon and it should come right back up. As info, Firefox is supposed to be more secure than IE and I love it, too!!

My problem is that I click on the Firefox icon, and ANOTHER screen is opened. The one that disappeared is still lurking “behind the scene,” to re-emerge when I shut down my computer at the end of the day.
Steve: I love Firefox and I only use web-based mail since we travel sometimes. Besides, I don’t like cluttering up my computer with emails. I use four emails (different uses for different things), and I’ve never had a problem. Firefox is much faster than IE and supposedly much more secure. If you have any questions about it, just let me know and I’ll try to help. One convenient thing is I have gmail and the google toolbar which saves my bookmarks. When I use Firefox and google toolbar away from home (daughter’s computer), I can get all my bookmarks without having to write them down or send them to myself in an email. I’ve been gone from home for over a week, and I was able to keep up with everyone and all my news sites until we drove home today. 🙂

Kathy: You can get a free gmail account which is web-based. If you add the google toolbar, you can bookmark all your favorite sites. When you sign into gmail, your bookmarks will be there. But, the “away” computer must have the google toolbar installed. The google toolbar will have a red colored icon which is gmail. Click on it any sign in, then you’ll have your bookmarks. I haven’t tried it with IE because I don’t use it. However, if you bookmark your sites on the Firefox browser (at the top of the page), they won’t follow you to other computers. They are only good for your “home” computer. Another thing you might want to try is “delicious add-on for Firefox.” Your bookmarks will then be web-based:

I prefer not to have my bookmarks at delicious, but I do like the google bookmarks. To each is own. 🙂
Thanks muffin for advice. I for one am definitely a new convert. Firefox/mozzila rocks. It’s page loads are at least 3 times faster then I.E. Now I was using AOL/I.E. for 10-12 years. That’s what I learned on and stayed with. The cool thing about firefox is you can keep what you know. Let me explain After you download Firefox. It gives you the option of importing your favorites/ bookmarks…which I did and email address book. Then you get to choose your home page which I chose as AOL, which is slightly different, yet has all my stuff I’m used to there. You can pick any home page your used to. Next you can pick your default mail client which I chose AOL because that’s what I know….Firefox uses thunderbird, but what ever you use you tell it and when you compose that comes up………..pretty cool. Give firefox a quick download just to see the speed. If ya like it I can help ya set up your home page and email. I’m still fooling with other stuff but I think you will be impressed. Like all things new it will take some getting used to.
Oh and it even does spell check on Gio’s……AOL never did that………….Kule

Steve, AOL writes third party software to your operating files effectively making your computer one of their network computers.
I started building computers in ’95, installed AOL and lost control of the system. I was unable to delete all the files they embedded in the PC. I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. AOL would not admit what they had done so I have not used them since. They also have one of the highest rate of disgruntled employees, many are capable of leaving hidden backdoors in the AOL system program. If you have a lot of operating system failures or crashes it could be from the conflicts their software creates.
I have a friend that used me to upgrade a PC for him, It worked great, was fast for it’s generation, when he installed his AOL back on it it slowed down and was constantly having system failures. He bought a new computer so he could have 2 for whatever reason. After installing AOL he had the same problems. He stopped talking to me about what to do because my only solution was get a different ISP.
I have used BellSouth.net and AT&T dialup, I now use RoadRunner and have never had problems. They do not write software to the system or registry files like AOL.
Bob, not to doubt you, cause you sound like you know what the hell you’re talking about. I have never had a problem with any of my PC’s or laptops. I just have always used AOL cause that’s what I learned. So now I am using Firefox, and using the AOL Mail program. You can make any email program the default in Firefox. Is that OK. I mean I have like 300 email addresses I imported and that’s the email I’m used to using, but am using it thru Firefox and it seems to be at least 3 times faster on page loads. I am on Verizon Fios……so my speeds are super already. Do you see any pitfalls doing it this way? Any help appreciated. Thanks ..Steve
Steve, If it works for you I say go with it. It may be that AOL has addressed its conflict problems. I know they are always upgrading their service, I am leery of any program that alters my system files. (AOL was responsible for a rash of identity thefts back in the late 90’s, not the service itself but disgruntled employees.)
I have been reading the comments posted about Firefox so I downloaded and installed it. I, unfortunately, do not notice any difference in speed as far as navigating the web. I do see a slightly faster reload of pages I have visited. This is due to the memory use they talk about on the info at the mozilla site. The only real concern I have about the program is that it is free. Maybe I’m wrong, but nothing is “free”, I am looking into the reason a company would provide a program for free, especially one that can report on everything I do on the internet and what possibility it has of reading info on my harddrive. I’m not paranoid…….oh wait….with Barry in the WH I am. I have always been paranoid about outside forces being able to hack my PC, and my wireless home network. (I.E. is free when you purchase something, Windows OS, or an ISP etc.)
Verizon Fios, is that Verizon Fiber-optic service? and No, I don’t see any pit falls other than the same for any service, Use a quality Anti-Virus program and a Firewall, and some form of Internet Security system. Good Luck!
Bob, sorry you’re not seeing any speed increase. Yes Verizon Fios is the Fiber Optic. I think I’ll be OK since I’m just running their email…AOL their browser is closed….but who knows like ya say with barry in WH…..LOL Got the doors to the gate locked as tight as possible and updates automatically. we’ll see. Another cool thing about Firefox is this:
If you have multiple tabs open for different sites and you’re ready to shut off your computer, Firefox offers a “Save and Quit” which will open all the same tabs the next time you open the browser.
muffin, i’m not trying to dis firefox, I.E. on Windows Vista service pack 2 has the same capabilities with the multiple tabs. The ram memory use is so far the only difference I have found, Aside from the layout which I can see being more comfortable to use in some cases.
Thanks for the input though, I am always looking for better when it comes to using computers. 😉
