The last time I looked, the United States of America is still a republic, i.e., a representative (vs. direct) democracy.
This means that the people, who hold all sovereign rights, conduct self-government through our elected representatives in Congress and our respective state governments who are supposed to serve us.
This, in turn, means that we, the people, must convey our wishes and opinions to our representatives. At the same time, we must be vigilant in our oversight of those representatives. If not, those elected to serve us become instead a Ruling Class who, despite their supposed Democrat vs. Republican party identification, actually share more interests with each other than with us. Already, the political class is showing every sign of being exactly such a ruling class.
There is a site called Roll Call.
It lists all your senators and representatives. It tells you how they have voted and how they plan to vote in the future.
It also allows you to E-mail them with your opinion. Doing so won’t take a lot of your time but it is important.
Check it out: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/megavote/
Here is another site: www.govit.com
It also allows you to E-mail your representatives, track their voting, vote yourself, as well as discuss pending legislation with others. Your votes are tracked on each bill and may have an influence on our (non)representatives.
