No sympathy here, Kennedy was a drunk and a disgrace to the Senate, from cheating on exams at Harvard, to letting Mary Jo Kopechne drown at Chappaquidick, to his votes on abortion and his covering up for his nephew on a rape charge. he was an evil, hate-filled ideologue, and for his sake I hope he accepted Jesus sometime in his life, otherwise all the lauding and tributes in the world is not going to make any difference, he will spend eternity in Hell

Dear Tom,

It seems that a lot of people have forgotten the tradition of not speaking ill of the dead while the family is grieving and one didn’t speak bad until the person was buried. I am sorry to see that people who didn’t like Senator Kennedy for whatever reason they had can’t at least so respect for his family and their feelings at this difficult time.

I am a Catholic and I have have been praying for him for the past year since word came out about his cancer. I believe Catholics all around this country have been praying for him. You do not know his heart. You do not know his relationship with the Lord. Who are you to judge his Catholic walk with the Lord? Our Bible says something about not judging people because we will be judged the way we judge others.

We Catholics believe in a God of mercy and forgiveness. To bad you Prostestants don’t.

Chrisy58,

Now why would you think Tom is Protestant?

Like you, I’m Catholic, but I certainly do not think Catholics are somehow superior to Protestants. To quote you yourself: “You do not know his heart. You do not know his relationship with the Lord. Who are you to judge his Catholic walk with the Lord? Our Bible says something about not judging people because we will be judged the way we judge others.”

It’s interesting how people who instruct others not to judge somehow turn out to do exactly that — judge!

Being a conservative, I admit with all candor that I do judge! Why? Because I believe there’s right and wrong, good and evil — all of which requires discernment and judgment.

chrisy58, you have judged me correctly, I am Protestant, a Baptist specifically. I make no apologies for my feelings for Ted Kennedy, he was a public figure, his opinions, policies, words and actions are a matter of public record. He was not just some joe schmo off of the street whom I decided to judge with no background knowledge of him. I judged Ted Kennedy based on his record but I also hoped that he did accept Jesus Christ as his savior, which he had the opportunity to do right up to the moment he died, after that it is too late.
Were my words harsh, yes they were. Were they true, yes they were, I told no lies describing his deeds.
Like you I believe in God’s mercy and forgiveness and I know that the mercy and forgiveness only comes through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Chrisy,

I don’t think Tom was judging Teddy, he was simply explaining why he dislikes him so much. And he did say that he hoped Ted had accepted Jesus at some point in his life. Wouldn’t you hope the same?
