First Lady calls for volunteers, young Americans answer
I’m going to make this one short (yeah right). If you want to read the story about the first lady asking for volunteerism across the country, simply click on the above Headline. Her story is not quite as important as the one I want to tell you, but they are related.
Over the weekend I had the pleasure of running into about 30 teenagers at the grocery store. Most of the kids had white paint all over them, but all of them had a huge smile. You could just sense that they were really enjoying whatever it was they were doing.
Realizing that one of the adults that was with the teens was in line with me at the checkout, I struck up a conversation. Every year he and a few other adults bring teens from all over the south to different parts of Appalachia to help the poor. The teens actually give up a few weeks of their summer vacation to work their butts off getting dirtier than they have ever been, and they love it. They are part of a larger Church group that help the poor all over the south. This year they are painting houses. Some of what the adult told me actually shook me.
First he told me how their Church had been working with other Churches doing this type of volunteerism for many years and how much he and the kids enjoyed themselves helping out the poor. He then told me that while talking to someone from the state of NC the week prior, that permits may not be issued to the Church groups starting next year. When he inquired as to why, the guy took him to the side and very quietly said “they have to reserve these special permits for Government run volunteer programs run by the Feds”. The Church adult was really surprised when the state guy followed up with “they evidently don’t want religious based volunteers doing this sort of work anymore”.
I could only manage a dumbfounded “WOW”.

This is part and parcel of Hussein Obama’s masterplan — the transformation of America from a democracy into a totalitarian state.
A healthy democracy has a vibrant civil society, wherein citizens form all kinds of groups and associations that are independent of government. Citizens freely form, join, organize, and run these groups. The church group you ran into last weekend is one example.
A totalitarian state is just the opposite. There, the govt has its tentacles into every nook and crevice of society. There are no social groups that are autonomous of the state. Instead, the govt forms, organizes, and runs all groups. Obama’s youth volunteers will not be autonomous, but will be monitored by govt bureaucrats.
Does anyone know if there’s a bill in Congress to end volunteer activities by religious groups? If so, please let us know. We need to mobilize for its defeat!

I didn’t look but I would bet good money that nobody will bring a bill like that to the floor undar any circumstance. They know it would be too controversial, so why rock the boat? All they have to do is what they said was going to happen…. simply make sure that permits etc only go to the Gov’s groups. Churches and other volunteer orgs can be frozen out without a law being made.
Every time I see a comment from anyone asking why we don’t do the patriotic thing and support Obama I am going to lose it! It’s so frustrating that the American people have become so damned stupid. Maybe we no longer deserve FREEDOM.

I just did a search on the WorldNetDaily website, but came up empty on anything to do with Obama restricting religious groups’ access to permits. Of course, that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening or won’t happen.
There must be something on this we can track down, other than rumors?
What kind of permit is needed for what this church group was doing?

I will ask around and try to get the skinny on it. My morning gaggle at the store where I get my morning cup of Joe should come up with something. A few of the guys work for the County!
Here’s what I think I know…. Usually anywhere you go you need to get some sort of building permit, but in the past local govs have always given major breaks to Volunteer orgs that come in to their area to help the poor.
