Oprah Show: “Being gay is a gift from God”

17 02 2009

I don’t know how I missed hearing about this, but it’s probably good that I did miss it because I’m not sure what my immediate reaction would have been. I’m going to bet that nobody can show me exactly where in the Bible it makes the claim that ‘being gay is a gift from God’.

Preachers like these tend to scare me…

Wasn’t it God (through the Bible) that said ”Be fruitful and multiply”? Well, this Preacher (from what church??) misinterpreted the word ”fruitful”.

I could not watch all of this because Oprah, and this guest, are a waste of my time. So if this ‘man of the cloth’ explained how the gays could multiply over thousands of years I’d like to know how.

I’m not sure what human gays are – a mistake, a choice, whatever. I do know that in nature a gay animal does not propagate. They do have fabulous careers in nest decorating techniques, I hear.

And what happened to the thread for Eowyn’s husband? Did she ask to have it removed? Eowyn, I hope he is doing better. My thoughts are with you tonight.

What’s the matter with Eowyn’s husband? I’ll be praying for whatever the situation might be…

Jen,

I do not know. Gio gave no specifics other than James went to the ER with health problems.

I’ll definitely keep them in prayer.

Dok,

I’m unaware that the post for her husband had disapeared. Could you tell me more about what happened?

Gio,

It disappeared from the listing (on the right) for a while – or I had a visit from Rod Serling. Those little orange barrels from the 60s/70s have come back to haunt me – AUGH!

No, just kidding. I dunno what happened. It’s back, though. Never mind.

I don’t know what Dok might be drinking, but it wasn’t on the ‘Recent Rants’ list for me either. But now it’s back.

I think Oprah is actually starting to lose her grip on reality and this preacher or whatever must have gotten his title of preacher from an ad in the back of Rolling Stone magazine.

I was under the impression that homosexuality was an abomination in the eyes of God. isn’t that in the Bible? I guess that doesn’t matter anymore.

Michele,

Ad on the back of a Rolling Stone – - – Funny stuff!

Jen,

Thanks for the shot of reality. And for having my back.

Gio,

Michele,

I don’t think that it’s (being Gay) an abomination. I just think these wacko nut cases have grabbed someone else’s religion and are altering it to fit their thoughts and lifestyles. And it’s not kosher to do that with Christianity.

Michele & Dok,

The Catholic faith makes a distinction between being gay (a disposition) and engaging in homosexual sex. Nothing wrong with the former, but the latter is definitely sinful – as are many many other, non-gay acts, such as those against the Commandmends & the 7 Deadly Sins (Sloth, Envy, etc.).

Love the sinner, hate the sin.

I feel really awful about how I stated my comment (except the oprah and rolling stone mag comment :-D ) I should have been a little more specific in what I wrote. I just meant that the bible states the “act” of homosexuality is an abomination…and I agree with Eowyn’s statement about distinctions. I have known many gay guys and it is hard to come to terms with what the bible states, but love the sinner, hate the sin is right. Everybody is a sinner in the eyes of God. (I am not a fundamental, by the way, but Gio is right, where does the bible state being gay is a gift from god?)

I also agree with Dok about how people are trying to alter things to fit their lifestyle and that includes the constitution. But that opens up a big ‘ole hornet’s nest, doesn’t it, because there were many amendments made to the constitution (i.e. slavery) that were unjust. It’s just the original parts of the constitution that people are trying to alter to fit their lifestyles, which has the danger to weaken it. That’s the thing I’m more worried about.

I also meant to say who am I to judge anyone. And also want to clarify the slavery statement, thank God Lincoln freed slaves.

I hope what I said makes sense.

Michele,

Forgive me if I seemed to condemn what you said. I knew what you meant – that the Bible says it’s an abomination – not you, personally. I’m just not sure I agree with what the Bible says about this. If I wanted to condemn gays I suppose I could use the Bible as the argument for my case. But I, too, know some gays and would never consider them an abomination. However, the fascist gays in the Castro district in San Francisco are abominations. Not because they are gay, however, but because they are fascists.

It’s difficult to make clear sense of this, Michele, so sit back and have an adult beverage on me. It won’t help, necessarily, but you’ll have a much warmer feeling.
