Over the last few years I have noticed a change in the gender of those that are willing to stand up and fight for our Conservative cause. There seems to be many more females that are coming to the forefront and staking their claim in the Conservative movement than are males.
This piece is by no means a complaint. I think it’s wonderful that more women are getting involved and kicking butt. Sarah Palin being the most prominent women in the Conservative army is an excellent example, but she is not the only one. Every day that goes by, I find, or get introduced to women that are getting more and more involved. As an example… Recently, I find that there seems to be more women that participate in political blogs and politics in general, than men. This blog being just a small scale of what I’m talking about. My female readers outnumber my male readers when it comes to responding to issues brought up here on my blog. This alone tells me that they are willing to get involved and actually make a difference. Then of course you have the more public female pundits. Whether it’s print media, online publishing, blogging, TV, radio, etc, there also seems to be more female voices in the debate of a Lib vs Con ideology.
What is puzzling to me is how it seems less men are getting or staying involved. Without doing days of research on the possible ‘why’, my thoughts are these.
1. Men are working more and their wives are stay at home moms so they have a little extra time to stay involved.
2. Over the years, the Feminist Movement has been so successful in raising their sons as pansies, that there are fewer real men willing to take a stand.
There are probably many versions of both 1. and 2. but those are the two that come to mind.
All this leads me to asking you a question… Why do you think women are taking a more active roll in preserving a more Conservative country? Or do you think I’m way off base?

For an in-depth look at what makes Obama tick, I suggest you read this.
Why Obama Scares The Crap Out Of Me

You’re right that generally speaking, it’s harder for most men to get involved due to work committments. As someone who works only part time, I’m the one who follows the blogs and news sites, and is getting involved in grass roots efforts.
But now that you bring it up, I’m wondering if it isn’t more than that. I know for me personally, for many years I paid only passing attention to civics and politics. I’ve been a conservative since the Reagan days. But it took Sept. 11 for me to really wake up and realize I no longer had the luxury of sitting on the sidelines and hoping things would work out.
I know the 9-11 terrorist attacks affected men just as profoundly as it did women, but as a female, I think it made me think about the concept of power. Maybe the powerlessness I felt tied in somehow with my sex; maybe that was the psychology of it. Whatever the reason, I suddenly realized I was eager to become stronger in every way– to gain personal strength of all kinds, including the strength of deeper knowledge, and consciously try to become effective enough to help make a difference in how things were going in the world.
Femaleness aside, it’s impossible for me to go back to the way things were. I no longer feel I have the luxury of merely hoping things work out for the Good Guys. I’m fortunate that my part-time work allows me the time to spend on this.
Well, I don’t think it’s number 2 to be honest. I don’t think it’s the feminist movement either. It’s genetics! Women use both sides of their brain to communicate ideas. Men tend to use the left hemisphere. This is a scientific fact. You are seeing an increase of women becoming more vocal due to the ease of which women can communicate on the internet.
Think about it! The internet is the new “party line” where one can come and “talk” to others. Women are more social than men to begin with. Add the new technology and those women who are more conservative are now joining a movement on the internet that has traditionally and erroneously be thought to be more male driven.
Why wouldn’t women be conservative? Men have the miss conception (thanks to Hollywood) that women are shop to you drop, spend, spend spend. That couldn’t be farthest from the truth. Women have to buy food, clothes and pay bills and some do it on less income than a male counterpart in the same job. When girls talk about shopping. It’s not usually about style but about how much I saved on the article. Which store has the best close outs. Where to find something CHEAP.
Women are stingy penny pinchers over all. Now if only the conservative men would listen to us, you would have a balanced budget, spare change and you guys would know what will be in style the coming season.
Thanks Jackie,
Your post makes sense.

B.G.,
Another great post.
Already I’m starting to think I’m about to learn alot about women.

I don’t know that I would agree that the feminist movement isn’t to blame. I think it has at least had some effect. But I also think that men are really busy. My own husband cares about these things and is as conservative as they come, but he works a lot. (But then so do I. I don’t get to read up on things as much as I’d like to.)
I think that both those factors, combined with the fact that women are increasingly concerned about the country we are leaving to our children, is causing them to speak out more. I have two sons that are within the age range for the new “Obama youth”, and there’s no way they want to be involved in that. Nor do I want them to.
We have to speak out. We have no choice.
I think it’s because more women are succeeding in the workplace and don’t want all their money taxed away. Also, more women are single, choosing not to get married. That makes one care more about where your retirement money is coming from. If the government takes it all, who will take care of me when I retire. I certainly don’t want to have to rely on the government for that. I don’t believe in spreading the wealth around and I think alot of women agree with me and want to keep all their hard earned money.
