I came across a piece written by Rebecca Walker over at one the large liberal blogs last night and came away confused. Not by what she wrote, but by the reaction to what she wrote. Rebecca writes about issues that are important to Feminists and is well respected in this arena. However, last night she was not very popular. She had the nerve to write about Sarah Palin in a positive way, and is now being crucified for it.
The comments below are not about how other women chewed out Rebecca for her defense of Sarah Palin, they are more of what feminists have to say about Sarah. Some of the comments are just plain mean, while others make zero sense, especially when you consider that Sarah Palin is everything women have been fighting for, for the last 40 years, and longer.
This is the point where I usually say “Enjoy”, but this time I think it will just make some of you mad. So let’s start this one off with ‘Enjoy, if you can’…
“Sara Plain doesn’t even want women to be allowed to take the Morning After Pill if she has been RAPED!”
- Posted by E.X.
I have searched high and low, and cannot find anywhere that Gov. Palin made the above statement.
“Interesting how none of you ever bring up the fact that Sarah Palin, this paragon of anti-choice extremism- said that the decision to have the baby “was Bristol’s choice.” What a freakin’ hypocrite she is!”
- Posted by A.I.
Uh, so what if it was Bristol’s choice? Is the above poster upset that Bristol chose life? I hope not.
“I’m sorry, but the words feminist and Sarah Palin should not be used in the same sentence. The woman who made rape victims pay for their own rape kits and denies women the freedom of choice over their own body is not a feminist.”
- Posted by P.
Let’s get this over with. It was NOT Sarah that made rape victims pay for the rape kits, it was the Sheriff!
“According to her feminism, we can achieve what we want as long as we follow her religious pro-life views. That is not true feminism to me.”
- Posted by S.I.S.
I can’t find this statement by Sarah anywhere either.
“I don’t think she was chosen because the McCain camp had so much respect for her, but because they feel they could control her and “train” her in the way they wanted to because she’s inexperienced.”
- Posted by T.Z.
The above post is just plain dumb! If this is what McCain wanted in a VP choice, he would have chosen a really smart Dog.
“Palin may have “taken advantage of the opportunities afforded by the early feminist leaders”, but why should they applaud her when she seeks to use that opportunity to reverse their progress?”
- Posted by N.S.
She could end up as the President of The United States of America, and this is a reversal of progress for women?! Holy cow, who knew?
“When Sara Palin says she believes women have the right to CHOOSE to use CONTROCEPTIVES to PREVENT an unwanted pregnancy, and the right to take the Morning After Pill after she has been RAPED to prevent a pregnancy, and that a females who have been RAPED, should not have to pay for the RAPE KIT used in the criminal investigation of the RAPE, themselves, and females have the right CHOOSE to terminate an unwanted pregnancy as well as NOT terminate a pregnancy…then I will say that Sara Palin understands the fight for women’s Rights. When Sara Palin say she does NOT want to replace our CONSTITUTION with her particular RELIGIOUS beliefs…then I will say Sara Palin understands the principles of our DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC under our Constitution. When Sara Palin stops LYING everytime she opens her mouth, I will say Sara Palin is honest and trustworthy….and worthy of “consideration” based on her actual KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES.The fact that Sara Plain is a WOMEN does not qualify her to be my Vice President.”

No comment needed. The whole rant stands on it’s own stupidity.
“I could go on, but what’s the point? The real question is why as many people as there are DEFENDING this choice. Especially YOU, Ms Walker. I figured w/your background, merit meant something to you. You graduated UC-Berkeley, correct MsWalker? Then I’m writing Cal tomorrow and tell them that since I’ve spent at least as much time on the Campus as you (I went there to pick up recycling for19 years) I should have a degree! My neighbor volunteers for the SPCA, so I guess he’s ready to run the San Diego Zoo.”

Here’s one that goes after Rebecca for saying something nice about Sarah. Cat fight in progress.
“Sarah Palin didn’t ‘earn’ her pick as McCains vice-presidential choice.Shes a “trophy” running mate; she’s being used as a tool by a cynical, patriarchal campaign because she ‘fits’ some sexist template. This is not progress for women or for the future of the United States.”
- Posted by S.R.
Once again, she could be POTUS, and this is NOT considered progess for women. Geez, this hurts my brain.
“The Palin problem is one of perception. Repugs think she is qualified, however slightly as she is a Governor, but you and I know, a male with her credentials would be laughed off of the political stage if he claimed he was qualified for the VP position.”
- Posted by R.B.
I suggest the above poster check out the inexperience of Obama!
“Just because she’s a woman, doesn’t make her a feminist and it’s obvious by her trying to take women’s rights away.”
- Posted by T.Z.
Yeah, and I heard Sarah will outlaw boobs and bikini’s too. Moron!
“I think the Republican party took what they thought would be a smart move (albeit a cheap shot) and nominate a women they thought could be “taught” to echo their philosophies, one without much political background or savvy, who has been fairly sheltered in Alaska. They used feminism against us and challenged our intelligence. They thought we would be so blind as to see all women as politically equal and ignore things like experience, voting records, background, etc. That Hillary, Sarah, or Mary Smith are all interchangeable somehow.”

Sheltered in Alaska? This person has obviously never lived in Alaska.
“Sarah Palin is a perversion of everything feminists have struggled for and worthy of the corrupt Republican Party — where Subpeonas are ignored and the Treasury Secretary seeks $1 TRILLION of or tax dollars to break the back of the New Deal programs that girded the American Middle Class they never wanted. Cunning manipulation in a State that is a virtual culture of corruption as a standard — is not feminism. Sarah Palin is a SLAP.”
- Posted by R.T.
Someone will have to educate me on what a “SLAP” is.
“Your comments in your article about tanning beds…..not sure what Joe Biden’s or John Edwards’ hair have to do with that. But use of tanning beds is a sign of bad judgement. Just like cigarette smoking is linked with lung cancer, use of tanning beds is linked with skin cancer, sometimes melanoma, which can be fatal. So, there I think she gets an F for judgment.”

Now this one is funny. Tanning beds are signs of bad judgement… hehehehe.
“– and this year they’ve even taken the more extreme position that every rapist has the right to choose the mother of his child.” ANYONE, MALE OR FEMALE, WHO TAKES THIS STANCE ON CHOICE IS NOT A FEMINIST!!!!”

Gotta go find my roll of Ductape, cause my head is about to explode!
And the money shot is…
“Obama is pro-life, McCain is pro-abortion, as is Palin.
How can I say that? Ask yourself, do Republican policies help young women take care of unexpected children? Do Republicans support contraception education?
Obama will reduce the abortion rate, McCain and Palin will raise it.”

If you made any sense out of the above post, well then God bless you. I have never seen logic get so twisted in my entire life.
If you have any suggestions that would make this site better or more appealing, please contact me here giovanni.faga@yahoo.com and I will consider all ideas. Thank you.

You all can rant and rave all you want, but it is a waste of all your time. It changes nothing. And shows a lack of common sense.
The republicans will scream foul over anything negative said about Ms Palin. But, I do have a couple things to say. She has NO experience on a federal level. She is poorly spoken and seems poorly educated. She lacks the knowledge of national and international affairs to be any kind of real advisor to McCain. I would call her a female “good ole boy.” I personally do not want a such a person as vice president or president. Nor do I want someone who would make such a poor choice.
The democrats will scream foul over anything negative said about Sen Obama. He could certainly use more experience, but at least he has experience on a national level. He is well educated, can speak intelligently, and seems to truly care about people. And he has chosen a running mate who can be a true advisor and supporter to him.
I personally am exploring the possibility of moving to Scotland if the republicans get elected.
KarenE:
Do let us know when you move to Scotland. We’ll give you a going away party. Or are you just like the Hollywood crowd, specifically Alec Baldwin & Barbra Streisand, who “threatened” to leave the U.S. numerous times if elections didn’t go their way, but are still around?
I would check on Scotland’s immigration policy first, if I were you.
